At the end of the day, Mari's scenes with Shinji at the end and the future of ReiShin and KawoShin ARE made in a way up to interpretation so Anno can have his wife and the fans can have whatever they want.
Except for Asushinfags, the movie makes it very clear Asuka stays away from Shinji forever, that whatever they had was childish and in the past and that Asuka will stay with Kensuke now.
You don't have a kiss with Mari and Shinji (even thought they could have a parallel to EoE and say "this is a grown up kiss") , the way she acts is the same she acts with everyone, her dialogue with Shinji indicates nothing other than her being happy Shinji is talking back now, and the comment about her boobs is something that was established earlier in the movie.
You can see it as romantic if you want or if you don't you can make an afterworld where Shinji marries Sakura, but you can't do that with Asushin because their relationship was shat on so hard they sent death threats.
Asuka doesn't get to hold Shinji's hand, she doesn't get to touch the SDAT, nothing.
