It's true that Kaworu never told Shinji anything because he wanted Shinji to be happy and he also wanted to focus on only him since Kaworu thought he himself didn't matter at all, and that he never showed his true emotions, but the very thing (and only thing) that happens with his character at the end of the movie is that he's finally truly talking to Shinji, about himself and about what he feels about Shinji, about his life etc etc. Kaworu and Shinji end this movie as true equals, so to me Anon is wrong in saying that because their relationship progressed at the end, Kaworu has acted vulnerable in front of Shinji instead of keeping his cool and looking perfect as always. Had the scene been nothing changing between them then it would be true that he only had that kind of relationship with Kaji, but that's not what happened and it's the point.
