>>3654216I still have a couple of episodes to go before I'm finished, but I think it's alright. I don't know if it's because I watched the first season before reading the novel, and then watched the second and third after, but it felt like it progressively went down in quality. I think the flashback portion of the plot is a lot more compelling than the events of the present day, and front-loading the flashbacks to the first two seasons made that really apparent. The present-day arc also felt pretty under-developed. I feel like if you only watch the donghua you're not going to get why people love the Yi City arc or really grasp most characters' motivations.
That said, I really liked how the donghua beefed up WWX powers. It made demonic cultivation seem a lot more intimidating than I feel it was described in the books, which made the way other clans feared him seem more understandable. I also liked the score and how creepy his flute sounded contrasted with how calming LWJ's guqin was.
I haven't watched the drama and probably won't. I don't really like the look of their costumes. LWJ's wig looks like it's pasted onto his head. I find it very distracting.
