It's made clear in NGE2 that the FAR sent the Seeds of Life into space to inhabit other planets because their home planet was going to be destroyed, and that beings with the fruit of life and knowledge shouldn't inhabit the same planet, but in Rebuild, Gendo implies that God gave humanity two options, to be destroyed by the angels or to supplant the angels and become His faithful servants without the fruit knowledge. Not to mention that there are 4 Adams and 6 lances in Rebuild for some reason.
