>>3635395>I know you think it's unfair and racistI ... don't?
I mean, I kinda do, at least, the thing about it being unfair that pretty people get better treatment. Bug-eyed kids and moonfaces deserve just as much of my sympathy as hot people, but they won't get it because I'm honestly pretty superficial, sorry uggos.
And I personally wouldn't say it's racist, especially given that blonde isn't a race, and it's true that blondes are widely found to be prettier, but ascribing aesthetic superiority to one ethnic group over others over a single set of phenotypes is technically racist if you don't go "but that's just my opinion," and even then, critical race theory would still call that racist by dint of its practical effect on how society functions
Again, I'm not saying I agree that it's racist, I'm just saying there are differences of opinion
Since that's not really what this discussion is about, I'd rather we not focus on that
Here's my main point: I must make a slight clarification of my previous position
I agree, people generally like blondes better in animation, and that very likely has something to do with Hunter's popularity. However, on the basis of my personal aesthetic ideals, I don't think his being blond is essential to the effectiveness of his design - but that light hair/dark eyes combo absolutely is. I still think he could work if he looked like a light-hazel-haired Tunisian soap star, but given his design, blonde with blood eyes works the best, because it clashes with his eyes the best. Blue or green eyes would not have the same overall effect
Also, while I agree that in animation, blondes usually rule, me, I just don't like blondes IRL. I like the look of brunettes the best among White people. For some reason, all my favorite blondes are dye jobs
