>>3614155this is just one anon’s perspective, but Eva is a really difficult franchise.
when I first watched it, I was deeply depressed, and Eva was a bright spot in my life, especially KawoShin. I also think the artistry of the show, the directing, and especially Ep. 24 and the use of Beethoven’s 9th are incredible. Knowing some historical context around the 9th and how it was used adds some meaning. The show is very thrilling. I also got caught up in the lore and theory crafting around the show. I admired Annon for his social commentary too: his critiquing of otakus and surface level message about going out and living your life (in retrospect he was encouraging salarymanning from the beginning).
It was basically everything that would appeal to a smoothbrain nerd like me, artistically, morally, and so on.
I watched the show several times, then discovered the rebuilds and watched them several times as well. I watched 3.33 and that film actually gives me this sinking feeling of despair that I can’t really explain, and I actually found this feeling addictive.
