TV + EoE already had great, iconic endings that were as definitive as necessary and Rebuild has shown the original creative force behind each has either lost any interest (Anno) or just moved on/retired/died.
Like why would you want a continuation from a train wreck like Rebuild? Why would you want more Eva if Anno - arguably the core soul of the franchise due to how masturbatory it is - will not be involved? Would you really feel satisfied seeing another continuation drop that gave you yet another ending?
At least the spinoff/merch shit I can understand. You like the cast and you want to either hotglue their figs or see them in a comedy or another setting, yeah, fine, whatever. But the idea we're going to get another """mainline""" entry seems weird as fuck to me and I can't help but wonder if it'll catch fan's interest given the circumstances.
Or maybe it ends up like Star Wars where Anno/Lucas fucking up Rebuild/Prequels means the fanbase loses interest in authenticity to the auteur and is in fact excited to see someone new continue the work. I just hope we don't get our own fucking TROS if so.
