>>3606001I noticed. The first season was so good, but I don't know if I want to watch the rest of it and then read the novel, or read the novel before continuing it. I feel like maybe if I read the novel first I won't be able to enjoy the show anymore because I'll be too distracted by what they probably left out.
I hope TGCF gets its shit together for S2. It looks gorgeous, but it's almost incomprehensible without having read the novel. The decision to explain Xie Lian's backstory at the same time they introduced Hua Cheng instead of having it as a prologue to give context to everything that happened in the first episode was confusing, and it made me think the backstory was Hua Cheng's at first. They couldn't find a way to adapt like 90% of the expository prose so they just left it all out. I had no idea that there was supposed to be any personality difference between Fu Yao and Nan Feng because they were almost identical. And the little moments they added for romantic tension where Xie Lian and Hua Cheng just stare at each other with blank expressions feel like they were written by aliens who have never experienced sexual attraction before.
Loving the novel, though.
