1, Shinji goes to the concert -> becomes a couple with Rei
2, Shinji goes to the concert -> becomes a couple with Kaworu
3, Shinji goes shopping with Asuka -> doesn't go to meet Rei -> becomes a couple with Asuka
4, Shinji goes shopping with Asuka -> goes to meet Rei -> returns to Asuka-> Asuka is miffed but things are left open
5, Shinji goes shopping with Asuka -> goes to meet Rei .> leaves with Rei -> Asuka furious ("I went home. Don't call.")
When the next chapter rolls in the writing effectively assumes that 4 happened, with 5 being the only one still somewhat plausible but kind of a stretch. 1-3 are all equally discontinued. Then the rest of the game is a complete fucking mess of unskippable cutscenes and a handful of branches that are so uneven one has full scenes and the other only three lines of dialogue. The entire endgame reeks of an unfinished product.
