>>3562634>>3562638>>3562671So I finished watching it. It basically confirmed most people's suspicions, Anno lost all motivation to work on Eva after Q and never got it back. He was basically forced to come back to the studio after being MIA for years and finish it out of obligation to the staff, the fans, and himself. This movie was him putting in all his current feelings and giving himself self-therapy - to the detriment of the plot/characters.
There's a part in the documentary that really stood out to me, Anno talks about wanting to kill himself to run away from it all, but he's too afraid of pain that he couldn't go through with it. Basically he wanted to die to escape his responsibilities but didn't want to feel the pain of having to jump off the roof so he gave up on that. After that part they cut into Moyocco talking about her being the only one who was there for him at his worst. "Even if everyone else leaves you, I'll always be here. I won't ever give up on you." During this part they played Kaworu's theme from Q so...lol.
It's really obvious in the doc Anno wasn't satisfied with the way the film turned out, he completed it out of obligation and didn't even watch the thing in full during the showing they had for all the staff. He spent so long not being able to come up with any ideas that they ran out of time as the deadline was coming up and had to rush to come up with literally anything to put on screen. I do kinda have sympathy for him, he couldn't come up with anything to write no matter how hard he tried, it's not like he made the story shit out of malice. But then again it really does highlight how incompetent he is to have not planned out Rebuild's story ahead of time instead of making things up as he went along.
