Now, knowing that Anno did this. Not talking about ships or lore or whatever, just for Evangelion as a whole. This, as that guy says, does not give a true ending to the characters. The title 3.0+1.0 makes even more sense now because up to 3.0, there's at the very least a sense of a story. Then the +1.0 part is all Anno using the end of this story to talk about himself.
If this was supposed to be the last time you see these characters to make way for an open franchise a la Gundam, more than getting people interested it drives them away from Evangelion.
I know people go "interviews and all that shit don't matter" but it makes Anno look even worse here, when he used all those people that thought this would be an end to a story made for entertaintment, and did this to the characters they voiced, animated, loved, etc etc.
This is also why the message is so stupid.
Grow up and leave the Eva world behind
