Does anyone here know anything about the origins of the “it is official/official sources stated/it is said in an official book that Kaworu is in love with Shinji’s soul, and it just happened that Shinji was a boy. Kaworu would love him just as much if he were a girl, a cat, or a flower.” urban legend? Since last year several tweets citing this quote really blew up with 30k+ likes, but no one ever included the actual source even when others asked in the comments. Since then some nips on twitter and yahoo tried to track down where it started but without much success. What we know is that this is something older. The first searchable tweets to quote it were made on 2013. 08. 16-17. by a handful of unrelated accounts, independently, all paraphrased. This was one day after the Kawoshin pair rings were unveiled. None of these accounts retweeted or mentioned the source, but none of these tweets gained any traction either. Over the years others have tweeted it too, and the line popped up in several fanfics and even in fanart. I once marked down the oldest example I knew about, an R-18 fanfic on pixiv where Kaworu said this line almost verbatim, which if my note is correct was published sometime in April, 2013 but has been gone since the Great December Purge. Do we have any other leads?
