>>3541400Jaden's a weirdly layered character, I just find him interesting.
He started out completely one-dimensional, almost a parody of the protagonist of an anime made to sell trading cards, then his entire character up until then (not the most complex thing admittedly) was totally deconstructed by the Dark World arc, and he's been a bit of a question mark to me ever since.
It wasn't the arc itself that made me start thinking him interesting, I'm used to edgy boys, and I can never take that armor seriously. It was more of what it implied.
The guy from the first half of the show is the same guy as the one from the DW arc. How do you reconcile that?
Was that dark nihilism purely a result of the trauma? Or was that darker personality just sitting behind his permafrost of smiles?
It made me look at his whole schtick through an odd, questioning lens. He's a question mark to me. He's such a weird person, socially strange, and damaged by trauma and a shitty upbringing, but so fun-loving and outgoing, confident, charismatic, magnetic. He's so dumb, but so smart; so irritating, but so likable; so sweet, but so bitter; so generic, but so one-of-a-kind.
I just think he's the most interesting Yugioh protagonist
