If it's about EoE then yes of course what he did to Asuka was horribly wrong, but because many don't understand EoE is another ending; the bad one, they like to see the Shinji from the hospital scene as the Shinji from day 1 of the anime. I can understand 4chan, but if this is about tumblr/twitter then most of them are all a bunch of extremist and in some cases hypocrites. For what I've seen, the defence of "this character is only a teenager after all!" in certain cases is ok to use when you talk about other characters but never when you talk about Shinji. It's all a bubble of no mercy hate, that most of the time is formed from other's already established opinions on this character and not from one's own view. You can recognize he's a flawed as hell character, and made many mistakes, some more severe than others, but you can't point at him as the root of all evil either. If someone tells you you are a bad person for liking Shinji then like the other anon said, block them or whatever. People that make fun of others for liking a character no matter if good or bad are deranged and fishing for pats in the back/wanting to be part of a specific group, specially on twitter. You can recognize Shinji isn't a uwu baby boy character? You are ok. You still like the character even tho you recognize him as a flawed character? You are ok. You recognize all his flaws and still like cute images of Shinji, art that makes him look like a uwu baby boy character? You are ok.

Seeing posts like that can make you feel like: "If I like Shinji people will think I don't see anything wrong with his actions". You don't owe anyone an explanation, it's their problem if they assume you do or think stuff that you don't.
