The general outline of the characters' relationships up to this point, at least as far as Jamie and Damon's account goes seems to be
>Murdoc gets arrested and is absent from the band>2D takes the lead instead, appears happy on the surface but is conflicted underneath as per the journal>Whatever his deal on Tranz was>Murdoc comes back>2D is shown to be content with his life, all the while Murdoc is left behind for the filming of Désolé>He then proceeds to have an emotional breakdownTo me it looks like they're running with the theme of 2D's emancipation with Murdoc attempting (and failing) to cope with the shift in the dynamic. If the new cover is to go by there is some confrontation about to happen between the two.
I'm not too sure what to make of interviews though, the writing has been inconsistent for a while now. I wouldn't expect too much depth from them.
