>>3437439Like, Chinese is nothing but kanji (it's called hanzi, but same principle), and Korean has almost completely dropped their equivalent hanji, but Japanese for some goddamn reason decided to keep BOTH the logographic Chinese script, and the syllabic kana, and it's like ... WHY?
I know modern Japanese would be gibberish without the kanji, but these people invented anime and those cool sliding doors, couldn't they have figured a way around that?
