Yes, you can max units without dupes, with acquisition stones. The daily Orochimaru anniversary mission gives 1 acquisition shard, which you need 6 of to convert into a stone and that gives 1 ability. It is very hard to obtain them, once the mission is gone, you'll get 1 stone if you complete ninja road each month. Rare commodity, that stone!
The daily multi was an anniversary thing, lasting just for 1 week... sad, I was always looking forward to the pull every day.
