>>3339909I am so pissed about this. Beyond pissed. I am livid. Not only does this censor a quality gay moment in a classic show, it also scrubs and sanitizes the idea that a divine/supernatural/holy being could have romantic, as opposed to platonic, interest in a human being. For complacent white Christian protestant, and probably Catholic, fuck probably all variations of abrahamic bullshit, the idea that “God” could take a romantic or even sexual interest in humanity is probably blasphemous and shocking: I’d guess even more so than than the masturbation scene in EOE, but what a lot of these religious fucks don’t realize is that that’s exactly how many of the true translations of biblical texts talk about God and humanity: the sad, horrific, fucked up (and eventually comforting when you understand it) idea that “God” created man out of romantic/sexual interest. Kaworu confessing his love is not only a genuine, tender, and heartfelt gay moment, it’s also a way out of abrahamic religious oppression by planting the seed of the idea of the Divine’s romantic love for man (full homo). Of course, Netflix making Shinji say “Kaworu told me I was worthy of his grace” emphasizes the bland WASP-y “Kaworu is a Christ figure, praise Jesus! All things point to Christ” interpretation. (((God I wonder who could benefit from maintaining the status quo))). How dare we have any upsetting or interesting ideas in art. Everything must pander to the American palette.
God I’m fucking livid.
