>>3242436>telling Otegine to chillYou don't understand, aside from myths about an absolute madman Otegine was never used as a weapon or even intended to be according to historians. He was purposefully made too big, as big as a banner pole, and designed for maximum skewer, something impractical to attempt in real face offs. He's for holding up with something on his blade and conveying a message.
This is why Otegine is used to make Doudanuki chill, because his purpose in life was chilling by a commander and simply existing where eyes could see; he is a master of hanging around. But if you consider personalities, Doudanuki doesn't even need that. He's one of the most positive swords in the whole game: he gets shit done, he enjoys fighting, he sleeps whenever he doesn't have a task, he's overwhelmingly content with danshi life and loves challenging missions. Otegine on the other hand does have hang ups, which he expresses by saying forget I brought it up, reminding you what he is, or just being quiet about it - he's a very defeatist sort of guy who makes it sound like he accepts everything in the course of things. In his own words when he's hurt: 'this is what happens'. It's actually nice when Doudanuki helps him be a weapon, when he's drenched in blood he's given the purpose and validation he's missing.
The recollection they share is because swords like Doudanuki stopped being used as standard (yes Mutsu, guns and higher steel grades are the future), and citizens carrying them was outlawed. Doudanuki is an amalgamation of affordable working swords so he really feels that loss amongst the people. At the same point in history Otegine's purpose was no more, power was centralised and there were no longer local lords sending symbols of might through the land to maintain their legal ownership and presence in the eyes of the people. They are both useless objects without aruji's interference. Though Gine 2.0 has made a comeback in recreations.
