Joking aside, I know that the fact that America's more of a comedy relief character puts people off, but he's got a lot more going on for him that fans tend to ignore in favor of flanderising his "unsavory" qualities. Also probably because character development has been pretty sparse for him. However, I think there's a lot of mystery to him, like choosing to not "read the atmosphere," even though he has clearly done it from time to time.
Oh, and thanks to the recent Canada-arc, we know that there's some angst in there with wanting to get along with other countries better. Not to mention he's got some serious daddy/brother issues that are pretty relatable.
Anyway, sorry for the wall of text, anon. It's 2016 and I'm still passionate about this stupid comic.
