>>3490387>In (minor) defense of loose character threads, it's kind of difficult to keep consistent characterizations over 15 season and 4 show runners, all with different visions of what the characters should be and an acute awareness that the plug could be pulled at any moment.
Having 4 showrunners really fucked up the series, not only the character lost their essence but the plot, cinematography, and mainly the writing had its ups and downs (a lot of downs). Supernatural is just not the same show anymore> What even is Cas's character arc anymore?
I totally agree with everything you wrote, and it's sad to think that Castiel's character went through all that shit (dying what, five times?) only to get a half-baked ending. I'm not trying to say that he never did anything wrong, but he was nerfed for no reason, written out of episodes were it was obvious that he was necessary, etc. He went from being a powerful angel (most of the angels got nerfed too, since everyone has a fucking angel blade now) to being the winchester's purse dog. He's like a walking plot device, only necessary for a couple of episodes before he goes "check on the angels/heaven" or whatever. Sometimes I rewatch that scene were Cas (as Emmanuel) gets his memories back and...it's so different. It's so impactful it makes me want to cry, because he HAS character depth but the writers are faggots who hate him for no fucking reason.
Remember how he was suicidal for one episode? After being godstiel, he came back and was scared of going back to heaven to face all the damage he had done. To quote him:
"Because if I see what Heaven's become – what I – [sighs] what I made of it... I'm afraid I might kill myself."
And it was never addressed again.
