The Buddha never said "Don't steal." and he didn't speak english, but we know by translation he said "Don't take the not given" and he was wise. This is general advice that can be followed in all ages and at every moment. No wise person has to say "4chan" or "gay rights" or whatever for their advice to apply to today. It's clear that it applies.
