>>3821606>Nene herself was a "doomed character" with not much time left to live. The thing is Nene is still alive, so she probably still has the chance to prolong her lifespan and change her fate. Characters like Hanako, Mitsuba and Sumire are already dead and according to the rules of the setting, nothing can be done to change that. The way Sumire's personal arc ended up doesn't get my hopes up. The only way Hanako and Mitsuba can get a happy ending is accepting they do deserve it, first of all. Right now, they're stuck in the mindset that they're monsters that only represent a danger to the human they love. Sumire only saw herself as a helpless victim and never fought for real happiness for herself and the one she claimed to love. That's the main reason why her romance ended up so badly on both sides.
>>3821608Yuu and Kou have self-sacrificing tendencies that come from their lack of self-love, but the circumstances that made them that way are different. Yuu was rejected and abused by his "parents", while Kou's family does accept and love him, but he has a big inferiority complex because Teru seems so perfect.
Yuu doesn't give a shit about anyone compared to Mika because of the abuse he was put through. Kou seems to care for everyone in a more equal level in comparison and despite Teru's hatred for supernaturals, I don't see Teru ever betraying Kou as terribly as Guren did to Yuu. So, it's harder for Kou to be forced into the "everyone vs Mitsuba" scenario and make his choice as readily as Yuu did.
The only possible happy ending I see for MitsuKou that doesn't break the rules is Mitsuba becoming Kou's shikigami. That way they can stay together and while Mitsuba still won't age, Kou could exorcise him when he's already old and grey, then follow Mitsuba after dying from old age.
