Granblue actually has some neat ideas worth stealing.
Like, what makes your character special is essentially an experiment into how souls work that escaped containment. When the beings responsible for creating life in the setting were doing so, their initial work didn't include free will. Those are most of the monsters you encounter.
The sentient races like humans and the cow and fox people all have free will. Thats kind of what makes them people.
They liked how the free will thing turned out, and decided to see what would happen if they slapped more free will onto a soul. The result was a shitshow they dubbed The Singularity, where the person has so much free will that their actions and choices have an outright unrealistic effect on everything they come into contact with. The world bends around you because your perspective on events rivals actual, literal fate in terms of how strong it impacts the world around you.
They didn't like that one bit, but by nature of being the Singularity their attempts to contain it failed, and while they only ever made one of it every so often it latches onto a person and rides that person for their entire life until they die and it floats around before latching onto someone else.
Essentially, its what makes you a Player Character. Its implied that the Singularity itself is you the person playing the game.
I thought that was a cute idea.
