>Consider the following:Lets say in the hypothetical future we BTFO the no cloning theorem. We create machines capable of scanning and recreating objects down past the level of the atom so that even all the leptons, quarks, and bosons are in identical positions(and momentums) relative to each other. So lets say we use this machine to copy you. It makes a second you that is exactly the same as the first you, lets call him youtwo. Youtwo looks, acts, and even thinks like you. He has all your memories and even believes that he is the original you, due to having identical neural connections and memories. Do you get to experience youtwos life? If he walks into another room, do you see that room? If he breaks an arm do you feel that pain? The answer to all of these questions is no, according to all known laws of everything. If the scanning process had killed you, nobody would be any wiser, since youtwo is identical to you in every way. He would have claimed to be you, and the process would have been deemed a success. Meanwhile you experience, or more accurately don’t experience, cold black nothingness for the rest of eternity, while youtwo lives your life for you. Now why on Earth anyone thinks that a computer program would be more capable of holding your consiousness than a perfect fucking atomic replica is beyond me. Call it what you will, the soul, your aura, or even just the continuity of biological processes and stimuli. There is something that is unique to you and the body you inhabit that cannot be replicated, and thats the part of you that you experience. True immortality can only be achieved through preserving the brain indefinitely. All other forms of “immortality” only allow the future to experience you, they dont allow you to experience the future.
