For humans yes but robots its a reality since their consiousness is already software.

Human consiousness is some arrangement of neurons in our cerebal hemisphere, unless these neurons are converted into a software state while keeping us alive then brain uploading is impossible for organic beings.

That restriction to a continuous path is going to be very difficult to follow as to see the neurons you have to slice their skull open.

Your argument says that people who have been resuscitated after drowning are not the same person because there was a gap of consciousness. You can also apply this to naps.

It's an unfortunate aspect of he English language that we use the word "consciousness" to describe both self and the state of wakefulness.
The two are not the same.
