I don't think it's as bad in physics, bio is definitely the worst. If you really want to know just do a mock job search online. I did for chem and it's either 6-10 years experience in industry or a phd with 0-2 years experience. They all want PhDs. Masters is seen as no more than a glorified bachelors in my field.
