You would know, right? The quality of research is about the same and the quality of students is exactly the same. Most people invited to elite universities are just average people who worked really hard to get there - playing the numbers game, basically. Only a few world class students are admitted by each university every year.

You're probably just still in school or went to a shitty university anyway.

Kys brainlet. Just got a 1st class MEng from here and turned down an offer from Cambridge to continue for my PhD at Imperial. You won't find anything better in the UK in terms of graduate prospects, quality of your peers/professors, quality of the research, the facilities etc - only real competition is Oxbridge (they do have fun traditions tho)

You can live in Bayswater/Queensway/West Kensington/Hammersmith/Barons Court with the PhD stipend even without earning extra money from teaching, though you wont save any money. Not possible in South Kensington/Knightsbridge/Sloane Sq. though.
