>>5697312>>5697246I'm gonna entertain this for a second.
The biggest flaw of this video is that his examples and most of the edits people make focus on Anime instead of American media.
This should really be an issue about how blacks are underrepresented in American or if you wanna stretch it "western" animation.
Under that premise most of the examples he uses are completely wrong because 90% of them are from anime which is eastern animation.
Meaning these characters are mostly asian.
So he's mostly arguing for erasing asian representation in media by turning most of those edits black.
Anime doesn't even have that many white characters either if we're being real, probably more than black people for sure, but I don't think it's a great difference.
White people just project themselves on the Japanese ones because of the similarities in skin tones, but 99% of those characters are Japanese.
Which is ironically congruent to the point he makes at 6:19 about black people doing it with piccolo, white people do it too which is why you see so many of them claiming "anime characters look white" but I digress.
It's also pretty stupid to use anime at all for this argument since it's Japanese media and Japan is a mostly homogenous country.
And even then Japan has actually been pretty good when it comes to having broad representation of races in anime, just look at early Gundam and Macross along with many other sci-fi series from the 80s.
And also the fact that he feels so entitled that black people should have representation in anime for some reason, what about other non-white or non-Japanese ethnicities?
Philipinos? Indians? Iranians? Khazaks? Italians? egyptians? They're underrepresented in animated media too.
tl;dr his argument is flawed because most of his examples are of Japanese media featuring Japanese people, when he should be focusing on media made in America, a country with an actually diverse population
