How do I avoid drawing in a generic art style once I have decent enough fundamentals to branch out?

It's not bad to draw in a "generic" art style, you'll probably make the most money drawing that way through commissions and it's easier to get into the industry that way. More often than not practicing fundamentals will make you develop your own art style anyways, just don't worry about it

The style meme is overrated. Everybody wants to be unique, when all that matters is being good. Most people that have "their own style" it all looks the same. This weird mix of western and eastern styles.
It's like they are embarrassed to draw anime so they cover it up by trying to make it look more western/ Disney. Likely because they are all art kids and they are told by teachers and professors not to draw anime.
Japan dominates the worldwide animation industry. Students should be breaking down and studying key frames in AOT sakuga scenes, not being told not to study it. Art school is a joke.

sometime style takes time to appear. A good example is Zeen Chin who used to do very generic and boring chinese big booba ladies mobile game art and then started doing very original stuff years later.
You should worry more about how you're going to get good instead of what you're going to do when you get good. You're not there yet.

Because there's a huge demand for generic art, unlike unique art where the demand is niche.

Look at other artwork/artists you enjoy and steal/adapt different ideas you like from them.
Take shortcuts and adapt your process to suit what's comfortable yet still effective.
Try out different mediums and see what you like to use.
Experiment with exaggerating different things in your own work just to see if you end up liking it

Any example? I have personally developed a style that kinda looks like this, with a more prominent nose because otherwise with classic anime you end up with “same face syndrome”
