Yeah. Pretty much gave up on even trying to make twitter work. I'm not willing to suck the cocks and sniff the asses of more popular people just to get anywhere, because flattery is for liars, and I'm no liar. If it takes lying to get anywhere in the world, then that's the fate I must accept. Too many sellouts today as-is. I still post my work on twitter, but ain't gonna engage in anything I don't have an honest opinion on...which are most things. There's a lot of art on twitter, a lot of fandoms and communities, but all that I've found are around things I don't really care about, or involve people I know I wouldn't get along with.
Lying through flattery to get their attention does nothing in the long term; it's short term virtual fame that burns out as quick as it comes. People are not fans of you, but fans of the person you pretended to be, so you are then forced into living a lie every time you open your web browser. Every little lie adds up into a bigger image of what people see of you, and if two things don't match up and you're caught in the act, it's all over in an instant. That, and outside of the internet, no one knows who you are. Virtual fame isn't worth pursuing in the long term.
>>5452549People do it by chasing trends. Being in a marginalized group does help at certain times of the year, but not that much. You really play the ass-kissing game towards popular people, hijack their audience through comment riding, pander towards <current latest product>, and bitch and moan about things everyone else bitches about. Hashtags are only useful if they're trending. It's soul-selling bullshit work.
