Say I want to draw cat sitting on a table. I draw a box to represent the table and a circle to represent the cat. Then I fill in the details later. What is this method called?

Constructive drawing. If you are measuring by estimation / eye (i.e. not sight size) it's "Comparitive Measurement" Constructive drawing.

If you do a realistic drawing it's Comparitive Measurement Constructive Realism Drawing.

If the table is fucking the cat, it's Coomparative Measurement Constructive Realism Drawing.

If the cat is fucking the table, it's a deviant art commission worth no less than $25.
