There are plenty of furry artist, Urara for example, that make some incredibly intricate and mind blowing stuff. Porn artists in Japan are incredibly skilled, just look at anyone working under BearHand.
It's not your fucking subject that matters, its how hard you train and how hard you push yourself to keep taking steps to make your work better. It just so happens that furry artists have incredibly low aspirations as to what they want their art to look like and are okay with medicority, hence they get an awful wrap.
Basically, draw whatever the fuck you want, but do it seriously. Take it seriously, because if you don't take your shit seriously, your audience sure as hell won't.
