Since this board is aimed to artists, I’ll start by criticizing the majority of artists who may come across it and their artworks: What is your artwork worth? What is the art you make worth? Chances are, if I’m being sincere, that it’s worth nothing.
Well, I’ll elaborate a little more on the construct of art itself. Art has no inherent value, it serves no purpose other than to convey an idea or emotion no matter how simple it is, so therefore art is the idea itself, and in our case conveyed visually. Therefore the questions change: What is your idea worth? What is the story you tell worth? To whom? Chances are that they are worth nothing still.
Some anon recently noted that most all art, as of today, is done “due to fame, fortune, pride, despair lust or a combination of those”, and I can’t really differ. Looking at the art market in general, be it at Patreon or in the “industry”, it’s but a whorehouse and nothing more. Artists at every corner, trying to make a buck or two by subjecting themselves to degeneracies of all makings so to have what to eat by day’s end. Isn’t it that simple? That we are but whores working for the highest bidder?
And when I say degeneracy I don’t solely mean porn or anthropomorphic artwork, I mean games and films also. What good has entertainment ever done to anyone? What is the value of entertainment? Truth is that the entertainment industry only serves to make money out of the cattle, and yet people happily work for them, at times for free by making fan art and therefore advertising people to spend their time in lining others’ pockets. Wholeheartedly wasting your time and money so to get another minute of shallow pleasure, trading true achievement for tokens, getting to the end of your life seeing nothing built besides you; is all that worth it?
