Is drawing in itself art?

I know I have a lot of space to improve, anatomy, rendering... But at the end of the day, no matter how good I get, I still feel like this is just going to be a drawing, and not art. Am I wrong? Is this just a phase I'm going through? Also any critique is appreciated

well what is art really? For me, art is a wat for the artist to express feelings, or a way for the audience/observer to feel and experience different feelings.

Take the duct tape banana for example, I think that is the best piece of art I've seen the last couple of years, it was triggering, repulsive and outright awful, it really shook people, and therefore, is art.

So if drawing gives you something emotionally, its art.

An interesting outlook, when I said I feel like drawing is "not art" I meant it in a sense that it will attract less attention, and be less aesthetically appealing than let's say a painting. Especially in realism, which is my main focus

well no drawing or painting is ever going to be as realistic as a photograph. However there are drawings that are as close to photorealistic as you can get, pic related.

Keep doing what you're enjoying, if you like drawing, by all means draw.

You should check out The Science and Practice of Drawing by Harold Speed.
He spends the opening of the book defining both what art is and what makes for a good drawing. I think you'd find it helps flesh out both y'alls perspectives on art.

Art can be many things so what is important is what it means to you. For me I enjoy art for telling stories and world building. About the drawing thing, I don't think that it isn't art but you should try to get good at painting and sculpture, they all strengthen eachother and backup important skills like visualisation

you are clearly well on the path to becoming exactly that. you need to start working from imagination. using refs for your work is fine, and even ideal in a lot of circumstances, but you need to learn how to manipulate what you are studying. not just copy blindly.
