What I meant was:
Try to focus on values, block your shadows...
Dont use to much of loomis head structures if you are copying from nature (in this case, youself - either from a mirror or a photo). Just try to draw what you see, the shapes of things.
After doing that, than try to analyse your drawing and the loomis head, see if you can see your faces planes, how they are different from the template, etc...
Dont forget, loomis heads are a great resource when you need to draw from imagination and a good help when painting.
Hand - eye coordination is basically when you just copy what you see, this is what creates likeness in portraiture
