What are you supposed to do as an absolute beginner? I've read the sticky but it starts going into more advanced concepts really fast. I've been trying to draw Picasso's Stravinsky upside down to help cure symbol drawing but other than that I'm at a loss. How long am I supposed to do that? What do I do after?

What do you want to draw? If you want to draw people, you should try drawing bones and individual muscle areas. Drawing skeletons is a good compromise between boring boxes and the difficulty of the human figure, because skeletons have very organic lines, they look ok even if you’re not good at drawing yet, and they will teach you human proportions and landmarks
Don’t post again until you’ve made some efforts to draw skeletons. Also don’t worry too much about the rib cage, draw it as a simple form, not all the ribs.

Once you know the basics about the 3 subjects above, you can learn on your own. That's why they're recommended in the Sticky.

Mostly people yeah, maybe some monsters down the line. And you mean like actual skeletons as in actual skeletons made from bones? I can see the benefit of that since I struggle a lot with getting lengths and proportions right

If you really haven't drawn at all ever pick a drawing you really like, print it out and trace it over multiple times until your lines look like the lines in the original. This will train your hand to understand the commands your brain is giving it, and train your brain to draw purposeful lines.

Then eyeball it a couple times until your eyeballed versions look at least as good as your early traced versions. This will teach you to measure what you see. After you've reached good results by eyeballing get a larger piece of paper and eyeball it again at twice the size of the original, use a grid if you want to make it easier. Then again at half the size of the original.

If you do this you'll learn and understand construction ten times faster than all the retards that went straight into Loomis without learning how to properly put marks to the paper first.

I did try eyeballing the upside-down Stravinsky a few times but none of them even got close to the trace. Am I doing something wrong? My sense of proportion and length is way off. Should I just keep eyeballing until it improves? Will it even improve that way?

Open Scott Robertson How To Draw and go step by step from the beginning.

He starts from a straight fucking line and circles, no joke you gotta learn a line before you draw a box.
And then he goes on to cover basically everything about drawing.

Then you open Vilppu and learn how to draw people right.
You should be good at drawing before you even start with the people, he says that on the first lecture not me.

If you actually go through all that you'll be decent already.
And I mean you actually do every excersize until it starts coming out good.

Those are called mannequins. So you want to be learning gesture which is the flow/movement of a figure which gives you the idea of where to place the actual forms of the figures you want to draw. And you also want to learn the forms which make up the figure, so you can use simple forms like that mannequin (teaches proportion) but it's good if you learn actual anatomy as well even if you intend to stylize it. Watch some videos on figure drawing or books like hampton's figure drawing.

not op but what about drawing in the right side of the brain? the materials like the viewfinder was kinda pain and the author keeps babbling about right and left hemisphere of the brain
should i keep reading? or just go with the exercise exclusively?

Yes, skills improve with practice and observation is a skill.
Again, use grids if you're really off, then once you have successful results using the grid try it again without it.

I hate to say but if you are an absolute absolute beginner, the best advice is to just doodle and dick about for a bit.
You have to realize that everyone starts out at the exact same level, regardless of age. So if you've never drawn before don't be surprised when your first bunch of drawings look like they were done by a first grader, because that's the point you're starting at.
Everyone here starts trying to grind Loomis heads before even doing some drawings for fun, and then they become discouraged when they haven't improved within a week. Don't fall into that trap.
