How do you deal with having a day job, Anons? Apart from the weekends, I can only draw 3 hrs max a day. My job is mentally exhausting, so I can't draw more even though I want to. I wish I could cover my expenses by some commissional work.

Same here, except the only thing I hate about my job is having to interact with people, that shit kills my soul, otherwise at least mines not draining physically nor mentally and I don't have coworkers or boss around regularly. Still the stress causes me to not be able to focus enough to draw, sometimes even on my free days. I have some commissions time to time, but that alone wouldn't be enough since I live alone.

3 hours is plenty of time. Anything more than 4 to 5 hours is diminishing gains.

Find yourself a job like that.
9-5 is a dead end.

If you're a lazy fuck like me then you wouldn't average more than 3-4 hours a day anyway, even if you were NEETing full time. I know this from experience, trust me.
Ultimately you can only rush the learning process so much before you burnout or hit diminishing gains. Just use your time well and use your weekends to really focus on drawing.

Storage "engineer" keeper.

I keep the storage in a small charter carrier alone, so I basically do everything recieve, hand out, check quality, haul the fucking wheels, brakes and bulk shipments of oil and toilet fluid, fill all of the paperwork it's not easy but well I get paid accordingly.

Honestly feels the best.
You kill the dragon of work and win the prize 3 days off and a weighty chunk of my paycheck for each shift.
On a 9-5 job you can feel your brain rot just as slowly as your paycheck drips hour by hour.

I work mixed shifts and it's usually fine. More than a few hours in front of the screen + tablet gives me headaches and RSI anyway.

I have 4-5 hours top every day for drawing and I have a commission almost every week.

I work a 9 to 5 job and I love it, but it's an office job at a big company where they really emphasize that happy office culture. The same job in two different companies can be a world apart just because of that office culture. If you hate your job, reach out to some recruiters on LinkedIn and fix that. They make a bonus off of you getting a job through them, so any recruiter worth your time is going to get you a new job.

But I'm a bit of an edge case... I know how it is when you work a shitty job, you get home and you want to do nothing but stare at reddit/4chan/youtube until you fall asleep. But that's what separates actual artists from casual artists, even when you're beat from a day of work, you can still go home and think "fuck man I can't wait to start working on that painting" and get shit done.

You just gotta push through and start painting when you get home. That's how you deal with it.

This this this. I work a job with 3x13 shifts and a 4-day weekend. Even with spending one day off on doing chores I still have 3 days straight just for drawing (or playing games if I’m resting my hand). I usually spend a half hour on work days sketching to keep my art brain active and then flesh the drawings out on the weekend.
