>>3577534DA is where I've gotten my commissions from. I have a tumblr too but that's it. If I was really dedicated to shilling I would run a twitter and furaffinity as well but I don't have the patience for that. I'm not exactly pushing commissions aggressively. The only reason I opened them up in the first place is because my parents got pissed when I told them I was drawing art for free (the concept of building skill and having fun seems to elude them).
And yeah "race to the bottom" does describe low-mid skill commissions pretty well but what are you gonna do about it? Either you match prices or you don't get anything. I've seen people toss around the idea of "always charge minimum wage per hour" and....no. You do that as a new artist and you'll never make a single sale. As you improve as an artist, your ability to draw will increase along with how quickly you can produce content. Trying to charge based on how long your picture takes early on will never work because skilled artists can do the same thing in a fraction of the time with better results.
If you actually are skilled at art you can charge a lot more, but you have to be realistic about it. You also have to be realistic about if your artwork takes days to complete because of insane work and detail or just because you have bad workflow.
Bottom line with commissions though is if you have any interest in doing them, make an account now. Post your art. Build a following. Its way easier to get reliable commissions when you have a fanbase established.
