You know why anime is this way? it's because they figured out a facial expression is more important than accurate anatomy.
Its short hand that everyone understands.
try and draw this expression in a way that is anatomically correct and suddenly you muddy the expression to the point you have no idea what's going on or you start making onions faces all the time, and yes there are manga that fucking does this, that style looks hideous.

anime have such distinct styles that you can name studios based on it or even tell what artist made it sometimes just down to pen (in some cases brush) strokes they make, in the art you can see every one of their influences, what they are building on, and who inspired them...
