meanwhile the south just pitched an autistic fit that the nation wasnt going to bend over backwards to support their need to have slaves when already it was proving more costly to the nation to just let the south keep slaves than simply paying workers a normal wage. Between runaway slave patrols, the need to have a large group of supervisors to keep the slaves working, and the greed of plantation owners who chose to take as much of the money as they could home and just sit on it instead of spending it, the southern having slaves was costing a little less than twice as much to maintain than a normal plantation with no slaves.
