The whole thing about the painting was also that Doom was supposedly crying in the portrait, and that's why he killed the artist and wanted the painting destroyed, because it showed him as human and fallible.

Superior was pretty much confined to his own book, Hydra Cap took over the entire line with Secret Empire. It was less time, sure, but it was way more overt. And in general the idea of having the year of Kirby's anniversary being taken up by the character he created to fight the Nazis being a Fascist didn't sit well with a lot of people.

Superior was also appearing in Avengers , he had a team up series and stuck around for two fucking years. And the majority of the people who were complaining about the hydra cap storyline for some odd reason believed that the conclusion wouldn’t bring back the real cap. I can only assume that these people only know about Cap from Marvel vs Capcom games and the movies. Hell Earth’s Mightiest Heroes had Evil Cap throughout the majority of the second season and no one batted an eye, probably because mostly comic fans watched that cartoon

I’m not so sure, fighting each of those guys, or even one if it’s Rhino, is pretty much the equivalent of having a fiery wall topple onto you, and Spidey comes out more or less unharmed each time, now if that fireman had a wall fall on him he’d be fucked unless he had his whole squad their to bail him out.
