I just realized that Ego is one villain in the MCU that is pure evil. Nobody tries to paint his actions or motives in a sympathetic light. He doesn't have a tragic backstory. You'd honestly be trying really hard to meme him as "did nothing wrong". The only one I can think of is Kilgrave in Jessica Jones. Isn't that weird.

Nope, Hela is the same type of 'justified' evil like Kaecilius from Dr Strange and Killmonger, evil actions born from legitimate injustices they suffered.

Hers was that Odin raised her a certain way and encouraged her, then banished her into the void when he flip-flopped and she didn't.

The other actual evil villain from recent times would be Yellowjacket from Ant-Man

You're partially right. It's not MCU because it doesn't take place in the MCU. It is co-produced by Marvel Television though, so it's made in part by the same people behind the MCU TV shows. Still not MCU though.

Also Judge Death in GotG1 is a religious extremist warmonger who wants to genocide a planet. We don't even get insight to his actual past, he's just an asshole as far as we know

His story is that he is a Conservative who refuse to move with the times. Ancient laws of his culture said that peace treaties are not allowed, that you fight until one side loses. The rest of his species think this is stupid, and moved on.

He however said "no! Muh sacred TRADITIONS! I lost family to this war, I am not going to have it end peacefully!"

In a small way, she is. She is Asgard's true face. And her return would have been far less of a surprise if Odin didn't decide it is best that everyone pretend Hela never existed. Yes, she is evil, but she is just the same evil that gave Asgard its dominance. And as the one who gave Asgard all its wealth through her hard work, she merely wanted to have what is hers. Hela is evil, but she is not a hypocrite. She never pretends that she is a nice person, unlike Odin.

Hela was pissed because she was raised as the spearhead of the proud Asgard warrior race, raising her as a weapon. When Odin decided he wanted to stop expanding and she disagreed, he put her in a lockbox. When she got out, he had re-written history and her peoples' culture had changed.

Hela was a victim due to Odin's mistake as a shitty dad.

He got the power to make literally anyone do anything he wanted just before he reached puberty. Also he got the power as a result of essentially being tortured by his own father.

I doubt there's a single person on the planet who wouldn't turn out at least a little bit sociopathic given the same circumstances, so I would argue he does qualify for the tragic backstory.

Also, his power means he would never truly earn love or friendship with anyone. He is evil, yes, but he even had a chance of being a good person. It was not an option for him.

I think Ego had the potential to be more interesting than he ultimatley is in the movie. The philosophy that mortal life isn't really worth much and that one single eternal lifeform uniting all the galaxy is more valuable could be interesting if it was explored a little more. He's still one of MCU's best villains because of Kurt Russel, but that's not saying much.
