I think if they could get a good director and writer they could do a good job. All the other ones just seemed like rushed cash grabs in attempts to keep the franchise and rights alive, and that could change with Disney at the helm. We deserve a solid Dr. Doom in a movie at the very least

Simple, don't use Doom. He's been the only villain they used for all the films. The Roger Corman movie, the 2005 movie, Fant4stic, even Rise of the Silver Surfer had Doom as a villain in it. Go the Homecoming route and explore unused villains. It's not like the FF don't have a number of villains and teams they can use.

With the MCU heading into more cosmic stuff, I think they definitely could.

I'd either have it set in the 70's and have them end up in the Negative Zone before emerging into modern day or have it set in the modern day and have the group formed to explore the newly discover outer limits of space.

Because the FF were Marvel's first superheros so it would be weird having them become a team after the Avengers in the movie timeline.
Personally I don't care that much about the MCU but I see why people want it.

The MCU has seen a lot of new and weird technologies introduced over the films. I could see a film working where they are normal humans who are studying all this stuff when shit gets out of hand.

I'm hoping that when Bucky becomes Cap there will be flashbacks to some of their stranger adventures, including teaming up with Toro and Namor. I think that would be a good way to introduce him before making him a villain in the present.

The only problem is their character arcs have basically already been done in the MCU:

I disagree about the Trank version (which was god awful) but you have to go the Future Foundation route. FF4 should be about innovation, meaning they should feel like the tech they have is nothing we've ever seen before.

It'd work better as a TV series.

Also Namor should be on the show as Johnny's rival (fire and water GET IT!?) and also to take the place of the Spidey/Johnny rivalry. Sue and Reed shouldn't be married yet and there should be a constant simmering Sue/Reed/Namor love triangle thing going on for the first few seasons.

I only brought it up in terms of being a good set up for exploring the Negative Zone. If it had been a freaky world full of semi-intelligent bugs and other craziness it would have been been much more interesting to watch.

I have a similar complaint about Thor: The Dark World. If they had actually had an adventure in the Dark Elf world it would have been way better. The first Thor at least has them doing stuff in the frost giant world, where as Thor 2 is just more Earth and Asgard. Thor 3 actually gets this right by having them go on an adventure elsewhere and hopefully a 4th film will explore one or more the nine realms.

Like say mutants are EXTREMELY rare, and it was his experiments that unlocked early mutants like Charles or Erik through tainting the water supply or something. A proper Doom requires more than one film for character development. I'd like a film where they end up fighting him and it's essentially a draw where his plans for world domination are shot down so he turns to working on his own country. However, if they don't do Doom Annihilus would be good.

If it's an exploration of Negative Zone movie it could be Annihilus. They defeat him and then escape back to Earth.

A later film could then have Annihilus invade Earth. Would make a good Fantastic Four + other heroes team up movie.(Similar to Loki being villain in Thor and Avengers)
