Craig of the Creek (so far) does capture a lot of that warm down-to-earth nostalgia Clarence had early on, and the whole kid society vibe the creek has going on gives it some Recess mojo, but it’s also a lot more formulaic and moralistic (resembling other kids cartoons in its writing style), and doesn’t have the same edge to it.
Clarence had no qualms about letting the kids do morally and legally questionable things and then get away with it (trusting the audience to not be stupid enough to imitate it), could get absolutely batshit sometimes, and its specific ‘voice’ was different than any other show. Plus a lot of the characters felt really “real” in regards to the nuances of their personality and their living circumstances, Clarence had a single mom with a boyfriend, Sumo lived in poverty in a trailer park, Jeff has two mommies etc. So far COTC is a lot more safe in every regard, and as a result it’s not close to as funny.
But again, it’s pretty okay. Just no replacement in my eyes
