>>98857772>Hugh Jackman proves you wrong. The first X-Men movie made Hugh Jackman an A-lister - at the time, Fox was hyping Patrick Stewart because of the Captain Picard thing. Almost all of the following movies focused on Wolverine at the expense (X-pense?) of the other characters, since it was a breakout role for him. By the time he was getting tired of it, they fortunately had J-Law locked into a contract.
Movie studios are always going to play up the most popular actor... that's why even though he wasn't in much of Homecoming, RDJ was all over the poster and trailers. Marvel's been pretty smart, though, in getting big names and keeping them happy. Even if RDJ said "fuck it, I'm done," they've got Evans, Johansson, Pratt, Hemsworth, Hiddleston, Stan, Jackson, and Cuminhersnatch.
DC's mistake is that they really tried to make it all about the director, and unless you've got a Spielberg, nobody REALLY gives a shit outside of the hardcore fans - and they're just not enough to create a blockbuster on their own. I'm not trying to start argument 373,592 about Snyder, I'm just saying the to the general movie going public, most people couldn't care less about the director. Hell, I'd be willing to bet the majority of people couldn't name the director of every Marvel (or even DC - Snyder didn't direct them all) movie without looking it up... but they can name the actors who played most or all of the main characters.
