Remember Rose is Kanaya's literal fetish, the Tentacle Therapist of lore, and Kanaya reacts to the massive disappointment of the real Rose by trying to make her fantasy Rose.
Rose wants someone who'll put up with her shit indefinitely without having to change. She doesn't REALLY want that, but it's a million times easier than a relationship with someone who doesn't low key worship her.
It's a lop sided relationship that's chemistry is pretty much just a friendship with fucking, and worse of all they never address any of this for fear of being problematic about a gay relationship. Instead both characters just fuck off from the story and are in a blissful shield, Rose dropping everything else she was doing and, really, every other relationship in favor of how easy it is being Kanaya's troubled paramour.
It could've been an interesting mid-story fuckup, but as an endgame ship it's lousy.
