The thing that's really insulting is, a comic about some black greaser girls having to integrate into a previously White only school would be fucking legit. The early years of Integration were bumpy as fuck, with fights breaking out among students, staff displaying racial bias and parents straight up picketing the school.

You could tell all kinds of crazy, scary, funny and heartwarming stories in such a setting. Instead, we get this.

It seems they meant that if it were a comic about struggles with acceptance and integration in the 50s a lot of people here would still complain. It would be called SJW bullshit all the same. You have to remember that even writing a story that includes racism for a typically sensitive audience like tumblr has a good chance of backfiring on the author, even if the author has liberal values. It's easier to simply romanticize the aesthetic with an average/boring story tagged on.

That's the thing, the author does want to show real prejudices, they want to show oppression and injustice and all that shit but are too triggered to actually show it.
You get tiny hints of shit sprinkled in, like when the club the black girl wants to go to no longer allows blacks, only for that conflict to last a single page before being immediately resolved by them just finding a "way cooler" club. It's like tumblrites understand that conflict is the most fundamental part of any story, but are still too frightened by it do touch it with their bare hands.

Then again, you're talking about people who consider Skyrim too triggering because people are racist towards elves, and then practically have a heart attack if they go play Morrowind and find out slavery is legal in that game.

My main issue with this comic, like a lot of this style is they want to make everything nicer and friendly for LGBT people but they always want to show them triumphing over the evil straight white man so they make the conflict so shallow and innuendo laden the let the MC beat up a guy and that's it. Conflict over.

I wouldn't really see a problem if they just made it a AU 50s where shit is nice and gave them a conflict that was outside their sexuality.

Not exactly because greasers were specifically stated to be Italian and Hispanic (mostly Mexican) youths. Blacks in the 50's didn't really have or were called a specific subculture within the 50's because of the heavily segregated areas back then.

Well the term greasers has many origions. It did come from the product they used for their hair, but it also came from the culture doing "lower class" labor work, quazi-racism due to Italians and Chicanos having a more olive like skin completion, and from their fascination with hotrod culture.

So to answer the question properly I don't know. I don't doubt there were greaser gangs with blacks in them since a lot of them were involved in organized crime, which attracted a lot of people. But organized crime and gangs generally tends to be racially homogeneous.

Quick Google search gives mixed answers. On the one hand, many Greasers were apparently Anti-Civil Rights (at least, Anti-race riot) and at least a few were white supremacists. One the other, there was in fact, a black greaser gang in New York.

Demi-romantic: Someone who only experiences romantic attraction after developing an emotional connection beforehand. This is TOTALLY SO RARE that it needed a name.
Demisexual means the same thing, someone who only experiences sexual desires with people they have an emotional connection with. Again, so unheard of that it needed another label.

Gray-asexual basically means 'sometimes wants sex, sometimes doesn't. So. Again...very unheard of.

There's also a real problem in spaces like tumblr and groups of people that have that mentality that they don't want to be straight. Because either everyone else around them is gay or already fell in line and chose a label. Just like there's a very real push of fem gay men to go trans because people encourage them to do so and they are young and stupid and enjoy the attention they get for being trans. I've had the privilege of seeing this stuff in real life. I would be curious to read an actual study of the influence of the patient's online community on their impetus for sexual transitioning and their satisfaction after the fact.

While it's a shame that the stigma for mental conditions prevents people from rationalizing what's going on with people who desire to transition to another gender, we really don't have a good understanding of how the brain works to have any real hope of understanding much less treating gender-dysphoria at the root (brain) source anytime in the near future.

When it comes to conditions like this, morality about the "right" thing to do is pretty useless because there is no real solution and these patients genuinely qualitatively and to our understanding, quantitatively feel that they are another gender. In the end, it's most important to do what is possible to ease the symptoms and suffering of the patient. The problem is a lot of this stuff happens during puberty, which is confusing at the best of times and some people do change their feelings on the matter before and after.

The one transperson person I've ever met who passed where I couldn't tell their status until after the fact was someone who did start transitioning (FtM) fairly early. More importantly, this person was very happy with their life and mentally healthy, and last I heard is set up to do a lot of good in the world.

But like most of medicine, there is no good or "right" answer at this time. Transitioning can be the right answer for some people but definitely not all. It has to be on a case by case basis with a lot of thought, monitoring, and psychiatric evaluation.

There's also the thing with a trans diagnosis that there's a legit trans person with a biological source, and there's a trans person who's upbringing or other mental illness led them to it and they can be treated and live a happy life as they were born. Like a boy mistreated so bad by his mother for being a mistake since she wanted a girl that he thinks being a woman would make them not be mean. Or a woman that has taken the idea that men mistreat women so fully that she thinks becoming a man will protect her.

The big problem with transitioning is it fucks up your body. Not only if you decide to undo it you have caused permanent harm but even satisfied trans people have greater risks for illnesses which is why the trans military ban so the government doesn't have to pay for your potential future cancers.

As far as we're aware, it hasn't happened yet.

But intersex is pretty damn close enough for what most people consider hermaphrodite. "true" hermaphroditism is pretty specific and requires the organism to be able to, well, effectively inseminate itself.

Read the study. The effectively just sprayed the plastic with water and measured which plastics bled these estrogen like chemicals into the water. According the study, 90% of all plastics and about 75% of BPA free plastics contained them.

While this comic was trashy and enjoyable at the Same time, it made me mad that there was no conflict. Keep in mind, this comic was made to show tolerance. It's impossible to do that without conflict. Nothing happened until the end. Also, everyone's gay. You can't spread a message without showing what you're arguing against. Here's a question. If science provided a way that harmlessly and perfectly fixed dysphoria, would that be more desirable than science providing a way to harmlessly and perfectly cause someone to transition to the opposite sex? Dysphoria is a mental illness. Transgender is a state of being. As others have said people hate that it's stigmatized, but labeling it a mental illness means you can get treatment for it under health care and shit.

Really it's a mental illness because it's treatable. Either you have emotional problems attached to gender and you can be treated with therapy or you have whatever causes dysphoria in people where it's not related to an external source. Which can mean people with genetic problems that led their parents to choose and they chose wrong. In that case transitioning will cure their dysphoria.

The rest, the kids that seemingly have nothing wrong but still have real dysphoria? Who the fuck knows at the moment. Maybe we'll figure it out eventually.

But also yeah. There is some overlap in a strength in numbers/allies sort of thing. I think I don't think anyone will agree on anything except for really broad generalities about equality and acceptance, which are all fine and good but not always substantive or useful.

I think the biggest effect on any of this stuff will be more due to baby boomer bigots dying out as a voting bloc and culture war stuff being less important in light of financial inequality and climate change issues.

What exactly do you want out of /co/?
If you just want to talk about comics/cartoons and for conversations to stay on topic there are better venues for that, if you want to collect art of those things or read comics there are better places for that, /co/ and 4chan in general are not places particularly suited to civil on topic discussion, what they have always been good at is off kilter non sequitur conversations that are only kinda sorta themed around a topic, I'm just curious why you would be hear if that wasn't what you are after.
