>>98395332>if more men are given work to keep busy and engaged, they'll commit less crimes? No shit. Most people aren't just content with sitting on their ass every day and existing, people need a purpose. If somebody can do meaningful work for their money, they are less likely to turn to crime. It's just that many people who turn to crime do not have that option.
Why do you think so many people join in on civil wars? At that point there's no other options left for them in the society, so when somebody comes to them and says "hey, if you fight for my side I'll give you place to sleep and food" you either agree or die. Not necessarily from being directly killed, but from simply not having things that you need to live.
But this doesn't mean it's important that only men have meaningful things to do in their lives. Our society has progressed to point where it's not necessary for women to be home-makers anymore, so it's natural that they'd want a part in work force too. The reason this is a tricky situation is that this has been very quick change, many people who are now bosses of businesses were young back when it was necessary for women to stay home when men worked for society to function, and they are the ones who decide the rules of the work force.
Why is this not a problem in less developed countries, you ask? Because they are less developed, and it's still necessary for somebody to stay at home and take care of children so that families can live. They don't have the kind of social security that developed countries do.
tl;dr: People need meaningful things to do to stay content.
