>>98394102It's not really hoarding if it's available for no cost to a community of many thousands of people who help each other out. Hoarding would be not sharing stuff at all, like Martin Shkreli refusing to put out that Wu-Tang album even though he was given full rights to it.
The point is that without a place like MS there would BE NO PLACE for such things to go, especially not a semi-permanent one. It's the only home for such things and it's well established. Plenty of uploaders on there wouldn't give a single fuck if you shared their stuff around, but the people who uploaded Pepper Ann specifically asked not to do so in order to preserve their anonymity.
>>98394163I have my backups, the point is having stuff readily available for other people in the same hobby. If all we care about is having our OWN copies of things then stuff becomes lost media again, which seems to be the opposite of what's being advocating for in other posts... That's why you want the site that hosts these things to exist on the down-low so as to not become compromised and disappear, so that at any time people with enough desire and knowledge to do so can download Recess or the laserdisc versions of Star Wars or whatever. It's like a little grey-market library, a central hub for that kind of content, and if it goes away lots of stuff disappears from the internet, which is what's at stake here. The point of the site IS to give access to other people, just not leeching stupid assholes
